Growing Old

When the calendar turns to March and the clock turns to morning.
Instead of hearing a cheer I hear a groan.
My Mum has woken up and BAM it has hit her.
She is turning another year older
Forty-Six this year!
I think.
Why doesn’t she cheer?
If I were her I would.
She wishes she was young again.
I say “why don’t you be proud to live to this age, to have experienced and to have seen to have done things with your life, some people don’t live to this age, you are lucky”
She says “no, Vic, you are luckier, you have your whole life to live, to make sure you don’t make any mistakes, you can live without mistakes, I can’t, they are done. I cannot relive them.”
I say “the mistakes are part of you, your mark on the world, you learn from them”.
She just groans.
Live life, don’t wish it back or away.
Life is you.

Love

Love is hard to explain
It never feels the same
Once you have fallen in love
You are never the same again
Some love others by looks
Some love others by thoughts
Some love others for no reason
And that person ends up distraught
But there really is one kind of love that is the most painful one
And that love is falling in love with an already taken someone
Someone you know, you’ll never marry
Someone you know you’ll never carry
Into your life, as your wife, or groom
And just remember, its not just you
It happens to others too.
Cause love is love and life is life, and together they can be as sharp as a knife.

Love Poem 1

I fly in the sky. With the bird's wings spread up high. The views and people, so smiley and cheerful. But one person stands right out, and sparkles in the moonlight, and that person is you!

Love Poem 2

When a person crawls into our life, hiding the others from view, it really is hard to believe. That single person is you!

L ove makes you blind

O verpowers the mind

V ain and beautiful love is

E very single first kiss!

The Star

There’s a star in the sky
By the edge of the sun
It’s up very high and it’s a billion and one

It sparkles and it gleams
Shines and twirls
Bounces and flies
Sits and curls

It’s a shooting star
On its journey to the Earth
Many many years since the day of its birth

Getting so old
But still very young
That star is the sky
Still a billion and one!

My Mum's Boyfriends

My Mums boyfriends

So many to remember

If I told you them all

I’d be here til next December

There was Tom who was strong

Paul who was cool

Rick was thick

Jack who was tall

My Mums a charmer

Gets a new man everyday

At the moment there is Brad

Whose hair is turning grey

He eats with his mouth open

Steals the TV remote

He won’t last long

So he can’t gloat

There was Dylan I remember

He got dumped in December

Ate a mice pie then he left

I think my Mum dumped him coz he was much too old

And into drink and theft

He was a rebel

He had a motorbike

But he was better than Brad

Whose hobby is to hike

Brad is a bore

He doesn’t half snore

His idea of fun is nagging Mum

So I think she’s picked the date

To clear him of his plate

And make him go marching back home!

Journeys Of Discovery - Greece

If I could go anywhere

In this world, on this globe

I would choose Greece

Without persuasion or a probe

It’s tall historic buildings

And it’s dusty sun drenched towns

They wipe away your worries

And suntan away your frowns

Gorgeous fresh oceans

Stretching as far as the eye can see

Salty, filled with fish and crabs

That I’ll be eating for my tea

The Greeks, they are friendly

They chatter in their foreign accents

“English rose” they call me

I love their compliments

Gyros, tzatiki and white fish

Their traditional tasty food

I could eat it all day

It puts me in such a good mood

When flying over Greece

The islands, cities and towns

I can’t wait for the plane to swoop

Dive down, down down

When you step out of the plane

The heat hits you, scorching, warm, ablaze

“30 degrees”

The thermometer says

Olympic games, historic sites

Never tired of being here

If I could choose a place to visit

It’d be Greece, and I would cheer

Teen Struggle

It’s a struggle that transformation
You need the right formulation
Greasy hair, spotty skin
Fretting over what you’re wrapped in
Obsessive eating, disorders and diets
Kids saying “smoking, go on try it”.
You have to be the same as the rest
Your emotions and feelings put to the test
No-one cares about the individual you
Whether you’re happy, excited angry or blue
Being ‘in’ popular and cool
Is what you care about at school!
Not working hard and achieving well
It’s all about whether you’re fat or you smell
Worry each day “what will they think”?
Am I ugly? Do I stink?
Changing looks, changing clothes
Spot on my forehead, bright red nose
Don’t listen to my parents
They don’t know anything
I only care about what I’m wrapped in
That’s what kids think, how they talk
I have loved my parents, before I learnt to walk
I have loved them all my life, thirteen years, and will continue to
I won’t listen to that crowd, I’ll be individual, that’s what I’ll do
I don’t label myself; I’m not a toy in a shop
I don’t think it’s wise to label, no its not
I’m not a Chav, Skater, Goth or Emo
I’m me, myself, Victoria Munro!
